(murderous manimal or sensitive sasquatch?)
There’s something lurking in the woods of the Pikes Peak region. Some have heard tales of sightings in Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls and especially along the Pikes Peak Highway where a warning sign has been placed “for your safety”.
Several sightings on this stretch of the road led to the placement of this sign sometime shortly after 1990. I decided to investigate these encounters.
One of the more well known sightings of Bigfoot on Pikes Peak were witnessed by an 11 year old boy and his 9 year old brother. The boys said they spotted the creature moving swiftly through some tall grass. The bigfoot creature, upon realizing it had been spotted, took off in the opposite direction of the children. Interestingly enough, the bigfoot never tried to threaten, harm, or consume the children as a snack.
Another sighting occurred in Green Mountain Falls, a neighboring town along the Highway 24 stretch from Colorado Springs to Woodland Park. The witness in this encounter describes something knocking on his house. When he decided to check out the strange noises, he saw two large, hairy, person-like figures running away, leaving only giant footprints. This viewing strikes me as peculiar. Bigfoot has a friend! Or a family member? Whatever the relationship may be, we can deduce that the bigfoot is a social creature, able to form bonds with other bigfeet.
Mike J, a member of the group, Sasquatch Investigation of the Rockies claims to have received several gifts from the bigfoot. Some of the items given to the investigator include a hat, heart shaped rock, a toy, a bowl and a necklace. The bowl and necklace were signed with a knuckle imprint in the ground beside the offerings. Mike believes these gifts are clear proof of the intelligence and compassion the bigfoot possesses. It’s hard to argue with that logic, Mike!
Multiple sightings all across the mountainous areas of Colorado confirm what I believe to be solid evidence of a well-mannered mammal. Its stature may intimidate but its intentions are pure. The bigfoot is obviously a shy creature, unable to make a meaningful human interaction take place because of man-made fear. Has the bigfoot ever attacked a person? No. Has the bigfoot ever chased after a person? I have found no such tellings of these kind of stories. Does the bigfoot have feelings and emotional desires? I’ll bet he/she does.
Clearly, the bigfoot is a peaceful, yet misunderstood creature. I have decided to devote my energy to helping this gentle giant find it’s place in our human world. As I attempt to make contact and befriend the majestic sasquatch, you can be sure that I will update you all with my findings. Stay tuned for more bigfoot news in this Rocky Mountain Ride adventure series!
